The commercial sector of the port of Viana do Castelo is operational 24 hours a day, 365 days a year for ships up to 180 metres in length and 8 metres in draught.
On average, the port is closed to shipping for only 3 days a year for meteorological reasons.
The Navigation Channel is fully buoyed and illuminated according to the AISM/IALA - Region A maritime buoyage system.
