Pilotage, in the port of Viana do Castelo, is provided by the Port Authority and it is compulsory in the interior of the port or in the area defined by parallels 41º 52'.00 N and 41º 30'.00 N up to an outside limit of two miles centred at the range light of the outside breakwater.

The vessels whose captains hold a Pilotage Exemption Certificate, valid for the port of Viana do Castelo, are exempt of compulsory pilotage.

Pilotage operates at any time except in any such occasions when pilots are conditioned by draught of vessel, tide and sea and weather conditions.

These services must be requested through the Single Window System.
